While looking for a cupcake frosting recipe, I stumbled upon this post from Anna and Blue Paperie where Stefanie shares a fabulous cupcake icing color chart that she found in the May issue of Food Network Magazine. The chart allows you to make frosting in any color with just a basic box of food coloring (red, yellow, blue and green). Handy, right? I love how this is just like mixing paints. It made me want to try my hand at cupcakes... I have never made some before, so this will be a first. Wish me luck, I'm a terrible cook!

This is perfect! Never will I settle for plain white frosting again. Maybe if the cupcakes are beautifully colored and decorated, I'll be less likely to eat them because they look so good?
ReplyDeleteHa, unfortunately, "too good to eat" never works for me. The better it looks, the more I want to taste it! ;)
DeleteThis is amazing reference for mixing just the right colours! I often end up with waaay to dark icing because I keep adding more and more to get the combo right. This is perfect! Bookmarking :)

This is amazing! I'm so slap-dash with frosting colours, but with this, the perfect shade of mint green frosting is in my near future!x0
ReplyDeleteHow pretty :) It makes me want to bake more (or paint a wall a new vibrant color in my apartment).

This is so cool! I apparently tend to add a little more than I need. Great guide, Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThis is soooooo amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt really helps... I hate when I spend ages getting almost the perfect colour... one drop too many and it's too dark! Argh <3
Who knew? I gotta try this.

Squee! By day, I actually work for a sister company of Wilton (the cake decorating guru's) and I've gone through their cake decorating classes and such... I love it, but I am such a horrible baker that I pretty much gave up (I even gave all of my cake decorating tools to a friend who is much more suzy-homemaker than myself) ... but oh, those colors... they are calling out to me! I may need to buy a tub of frosting and experiment, even if only for the sake of mixing pretty colors... :) Oh ,and we are regular readers of Food Network Magazine... I can't believe that I haven't seen that chart yet; I'll have to see if hub's is secretly hoarding this month's issue somewhere! :) Thanks for sharing, and God Bless! :)
ReplyDeleteI feel exactly the same as you! I'm a terrible baker (and cook) but this chart makes me want to experiment! I love how this is just like mixing paints. Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteOh my goodness! This is perfect. Definitely bookmarking. My sister and I bake together fairly often, and especially since summer's almost here it'll be more. This will keep everything from getting repetitive. :D
ReplyDeleteThis is so great!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. I work in a bakery and that is always the the most time consuming part: getting the right color. Thank you so much! This is great!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comments, I'm so happy to hear you find this helpful :)
ReplyDeleteI am a little lost on the conversion...I understand that Raspberry Sorbet would be 1 1/2 tsps., but how to the rest work? Pina Colada...1/20th of a tsp? I promise, Im a better cook than mathematician.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
All these beautiful colors... The hardest is to finally find one (as far as I would like them all!)
ReplyDeletegreat sweet tutorial! I need to make cupcakes assap! :)
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! Can these colours be used with other icings, like 1 cup of buttercream or fondant, or would the colour ratio be different?
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry, I have absolutely no idea!
