DIY Silver & Resin Earrings (Guest Post by Francesca)

While I'm away in Fiji (lucky me!), a pretty awesome group of some of my very favorite bloggers is helping “fill in the gaps” with amazing recipes, DIY projects and much more.

Today's post is by DIY queen Francesca from Fall For DIY. In addition to being one of the loveliest people out there, she is too talented for words. Her projects, styling, photography, and overall skills, never fail to amaze me. I'm definitely making these earrings when I'm back!

Hey, I’m Fran. I blog over on Fall For DIY and Clemence has been kind enough to lend me a little space over here on Oh The Lovely Things to show you guys a DIY blog post I’ve created. I have a bit of a jewelry obsession and write a lot of tutorials based on the latest jewelry trends. So lets talk finery!

In jewelry terms gold has been stealing the limelight in recent trends. Gold has this exotic, luxurious connotation that has fit well with free spirited fashions of late but the minimal and industrial feel of silver has slowly been making a resurgence.

I wanted to stick to these ideas with this super sleek earring tutorial so I chose to team the brushed silver (of a drinks can) with resin gemstones I made from the mould in this tutorial for a little minimalist glamour. Moral of the story, step away from the rhinestones and embrace your minimal side.

Thin Strip of Metal from a Drinks Can
2 x Resin Gemstones (Resin and fondant mould)
Earring Posts
E6000 Glue

1. Using scissors trim the metal into to pieces that fit around each of the gemstones leaving some room for them to pop out either side.

2. Glue one end the wrong side of the can to the back of the gemstones. Do this with both strips and stones.

3. Leave this to dry for about an hour, then wrap the remainder of the metal all the way around the gemstone until it overlaps itself.

4. Trim off the excess and glue in place. Hold this together while it dries with tape. Complete these steps for both stones and leave for 2-3 hours to completely set.

5. Glue the earring posts on to the metal strip at the back of the gemstones and leave to set again. Go get a cuppa and relax a bit, and come back in an hour to see if they’ve set and are ready to wear.

If you’ve never used resin before don’t worry, it’s easy. Just follow the instructions on the pack. You can see how I did it in this post.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed the post and I just want to say a quick thanks to Clemence for having me!
