Cat Love

My kitty died earlier today.
A few months ago I did something wrong with my photo library and lost most of my photos, so I don't have a beautiful photo of him. But if you're curious to see what he looked like, you can see photos here, herehere (just scroll down) or here.
I've been crying almost continually for the last couple of days. I know some people think I'm crazy to be so sad for a pet, but he became such an important and dear part of my life. He was the kindest, sweetest, most loving creature and it breaks me apart to have seen him suffering and dying.
But I am thankful. I'm thankful that we got to spend many happy years together, I'm thankful to have seen him climb in the highest branches of trees, play with fallen leaves and sleep on my feet. That's what matters the most.

I wanted to share a few cat-themed things... A form of catharsis maybe. I'm sorry for the sad post. I know I'll soon be able to see only the positive.

  2. I am so sorry for the loss of your dear cat! I completely understand- I was absolutely devastated when my dog & cat died of old age within a few months of each other. It's been almost 3 years & I still miss them, although I do have a new pup. I hope you find some peace & comfort in knowing that you gave him such a wonderful life!

  4. Sorry for your loss. I think any pet owner could understand what an impact an animal has on you. After so many years - they become part of your family and I think it's only natural that we would grieve their absence. Keep your chin up.

  5. I'm so sorry for this loss... It really moves me because I've got a cat too, and I love him so much that I can perfectly understand what you feel! I'mnever commenting, although I'm following you on Bloglovin (I love your DIY roundups and Links love, it's so inspiring!), but this time I really had to say how sorry I was. It's hard but someday you'll recover from it and maybe have a new cat. Best wishes.

Hopefully, the wonderful memories you have of your sweet little kitty will help to ease some of your pain and slowly, you'll start to feel a little better. My dog just died last month and the part that is hardest for my to accept was that it happened when I was on vacation...at least I can talk about him without crying now. Hugs to you :)

  24. I am so sorry for your loss. And anyone who thinks your crazy has clearly never had a cat. Those photos are simply adorable. Growing up, we had outdoor cats mostly, but once I was allowed my own indoor cat and it was just wonderful. Sadly Willow died, and since then I never allowed myself to get close to any of our cats because losing him hurt too much. I hope you find some solace soon.

I know it's easier said than done, and it never works for me, but maybe it will for you: try to cherish the time the two of you had spent together. And since your lovely pet was a Cat, then the time must have really been amazing.
But still, I am sorry for your loss. But I hope you'll feel better soon.

  34. I am so sorry for your loss. Also, please don't ever apologize for mourning the loss of someone close to you. To share love and a connection with any creature, human or animal, is a blessing and a gift and something that deserves to be mourned. Those connections make us the people that we are and we are all the better for reaching out and sharing our hearts.

Allow the process to follow it's own path. Don't have any expectations, just allow it to happen. You will always miss your sweet kitty, but the feelings, like a fine wine, will mellow and become full and rich.......

    2. I thought about you yesterday as I was sitting in synagogue. We were in the part of the service where we remember our loved ones who have passed away. There were a number of poems and one of them seemed so simple, but it's message was a strong one to me and I hope you agree.

When a loved one dies we think of their death and the loss we feel. As time passes and we heal, we are able to think again, about their life and the time spent together. It was such a simple thought, but to me, so incredibly profound.

  44. Oh man.. I only just found this.
So, so sorry for your loss, Clemence.
When I lost my first cat Penny, I was an emotional wreck for weeks, and people who do not understand this pain are people you can happily live without.
You are absolutely right- what counts are the precious moments you guys had together, and the precious moments he experienced because you made it possible for him. That's something so amazing that it will stay with you forever.
My cats are not my babies, and I am not crazy. But I think the love between a pet and its "owner" is comparable to the love between mother and child. Unconditional, unquestioning, pure. Of course it breaks your heart, what kind of a person would you be if it didn't?
I hope you'll come out of that dark hole soon, so you can enjoy the memories without bursting into tears every time you think of him. You were there when he needed you most, and that's a very big deal.
    Sending you all my love,
    Steff
