You will need :
- A piece of leather, approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7" x 4")
- Scissors
- Leather glue or super glue
- Thread
- A snap button
1. Cut an oval piece of leather, approx. 22cm x 10cm (approx. 8.7" x 4"). You can make it longer or smaller, depending on the size of your wrist.

2. Form a bow.

3. Secure the bow by wrapping thread around it and knot.

4. Cut a small rectangle of leather, approx. 4cm x 1cm / 1.6" x 0.4"

5. Glue the small band of leather over the thread.

6. Sew the snap button, one part of the button at one end of the leather, and the other at the other side.

And Voila!

Please let me know if something is unclear or if you have any question regarding this tutorial. If you try it, I would love to know how it went!
Have a lovely day!
This is great! I am going to make them for my girlfriends, as gifts .Could you tell me where you buy your leather? I have access to Joann's fabric and other smaller places here in Chicago, but finding certain materials is often difficult.
ReplyDeleteIf you ask in a furniture store they may give you a little sample book of leathers - the ones you see lying on sofas. They are often glad to give away past season sample books.
DeleteHi Katie, I'm so glad you like the bracelet and will make some as gifts!
ReplyDeleteI actually used leather from a broken bag I had.
As I live in Switzerland I am not really familiar with american stores, but I asked a friend and she said that if you didn't find what you're looking for at Joann's fabric, you could try http://www.leatherunltd.com/ She has ordered from this site and was happy with her purchase, but I have never seen their leather myself.
I hope you'll find a nice leather!
Thanks! I actually found scrap leather at Michael's craft store. I made one, in dark brown, last night and it turned out really cute! I think my friend will like it :) Overall, pretty easy to make. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but when I make another, it won't take as long. I will also look into that leather website as well, for future projects. -Katie
ReplyDeleteSo simple and beautiful! I love it!

Oh man I can't believe it, I made a similar cuff bracelet out of a shirt cuff (posting it on my blog monday as part of my Button Down Rehab series). I was browsing through the projects on One Pretty Thing and I saw this and thought that looks familiar! haha great minds think alike. :)

This is such a cute and cool idea - now I know what to make for christmas presents this year :D
ReplyDeleteawesome idea. can't wait to try it. thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBrittany
LOVE this idea, sheer brilliance! I found this on Pinterest and had to make it as a Christmas present. My sister and I have a deal that we make each other's gifts every year, and now we can have matching bracelets! Thank you so much for sharing! It turned out great!
ReplyDeleteAnd just FYI--anyone who is crafty but doesn't often sew or put buttons on anything, I'm not exactly proficient but found this pretty simple. I'd say finding the supplies was the most challenging part! (finding snap buttons in Michaels was like a needle in a haystack!) but that's just because it was Black Friday and no one around to ask haha. Well worth it though, and so cheap!
finally made one of my own and i love it!! i'll make these for my girlfriends for christmas this year :)
ReplyDeleteI found this on Pinterest months ago, and I'm so glad I did! I'm just finishing up my own leather bracelet! I'm giving this as a Christmas gift, like so many other people. I used some scrap suede from Michael's, which gives a bit of a different look--it's a little softer and thinner, and so not as structured, but I think it still works well!
ReplyDeleteI love love love this and can't wait to try it out with an old purse!
ReplyDeleteHi! Silly question, but do you just use a needle/thread to sew the snap closure on? Thanks, looking forward to trying this!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comments! I'm so happy you like the tutorial :)
ReplyDelete@kris : Yes, I used snap buttons that you can simply sew with usual needle and thread. If you have the supplies (or want to buy them), you can also use special snap pliers. It gives a nicer finish, but these pliers can be quite expansive!
Mille mercis!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I had to share it on my blog today. :)
ReplyDeletehttp://aleksa-torri.blogspot.com/2012/01/diy-tutorial-how-to-make-leather-bow.html
I loved this the moment I saw it and instead of using a leather piece around the middle, I used a polka dotted print fabric for a pop of color and pizazz and for the closure I went with a wooden button....super cute!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! ♥
ReplyDeleteI love this! :) I also made my own version: http://pientakivaa.blogspot.com/2012/02/ranteeseen.html (Unfortunately my blog is not in English though.)

ReplyDeleteOf course not! Thanks so much for pinning :)
DeleteMe and my sister tried this! its super easy and fun! does not take alot of time, and is SO CUTE! I got alot of compliments on it. Instead of using a sew on snap we just used a button and cut a slit on the other side, works just as good! Thanks!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a button! And I'm so happy to hear that you got compliments on it, thanks for letting me know :)

I made it with gray leather, and it came out beautifully, but unfortunately i hadnt measured my wrist correctly, so it was too short to fit as a bracelet. So I decided to make it an accessory for a dress, I cut a very wide piece of lacey material to make a belt, used a stretchy material to sew between the two ends, so that it would work as a belt properly, then i glued the bow on the stretchy material. So it looks like a lacey belt with a gray leather bow connecting the material.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I did not connect the ends of the bow together as shown in the tutorial, so it was a flat bow, not a bracelet.
Such a great idea!
DeleteJust finished my own cuff in faux black leather -- I used snaps and material from some pants I found at a Goodwill. Thank you so much for this easy tutorial! The cuff turned out beautifully. :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy to hear that :)
Deletethis is very chic. i love this. I can even be more creative and use different colors. Thank you for this tutorial. :)

ReplyDeleteI made these as my bridesmaid gifts. I used hot pink vinyl and plastic sew on snaps. They turned out wonderfully! The first one was a little difficult but got the hang of it after making the sixth one.
So happy to hear it turned out beautifully!
DeleteGREAT POST!!! I made this from the discontinued leather samples at work. http://bethanybeachdesigns.com/2012/08/12/happy-scraps/ Thank you for the inspiration!!!!

ReplyDeleteBesides synthetic leather, I can't think of a material that would have the same look as leather. You could easily make the bracelet with a rather thick fabric but you wouldn't get the same look.
DeleteThank you so much for this! So cute and I will certainly try it out! :)
ReplyDeleteThat bracelet is adorable!! I'm definitely going to try making that!

Really cute. I love the stud in the middle of the bow and how you always buy most of your supplies at stores people can actually shop at. Posted this on my main blog with two photos of the finished Designer Bracelets and a link back to your blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this cute idea! Found this on Pinterest only some days ago and had to try it just today :) Unfortunately my leather was a bit thick, but I'll definitely have a look if I can find anything better and try it again. And I think it looks much nicer with smooth leather, I just had some kind of suede. And sewing the buttons was quite difficult - as the leather was too thick. But - despite of all the problems - I really like the result :) If you wanna see my attempt, here's the link: http://luftmasche.blogspot.de/2013/03/und-dann-auch-noch-leder.html
ReplyDeletei'm going to make it now.. i'm realy excited!!!! i let you know how it went...
ReplyDeleteIt looks so cool and I definitely want to try it. One question though: why an oval and not a rectangle?
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, thank you for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI found a long leather skirt in a flea market for only 50 cents!!! Wow now I´ll make a lot of this pretty bracelets! <3
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I love this tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is that could I try replacing the leather with fabric? Because leather is too expensive around here and online.
ReplyDeleteReally i love this ..! Thank you so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteWhat thickness is best for the leather?
ReplyDeleteGo to your favorite thrift store (Goodwill, etc.) and find purses/leather jackets in leather OR "pleather" (faux leather) OR try denim and use various materials for the little center strip AND/OR decorate the strip with "jewels", studs, sparkles...and voila! a whole wardrobe of bracelets for yourself or gifts! Think outside the box!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the link is sharing great knowledge; I agree to you and admit all the things you described. best home security system
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful DIY trick! I think I want to make some soon at home. Keep spreading good vibe, xoxoxo

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
ReplyDeleteSo cute leather work. Wants to make one by following yourdiy tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
